HINOKURI 01:12
*ron isley wu-tang hook voice* back in the game now hey there!!! if you decided to go through the lyrics tags of this instrumental album, or if they just popped up on your phone, welcome!!! i'm doing artist commentary for every single track on jawbreakers, as well as the rest of my bandcamp catalog down the line! please join me on this self-reflective journey through my discography. crack the jawbreakers!

we got some dope mortal kombat: armageddeon samples in the background. you guys remember mortal kombat: armageddeon? it had that guy mokap in it, who was just the motion capture model rendered in-game. you could switch between two different styles (weapon and non-weapon) for all 75 million characters, but i'm having a hard time remembering mokap's weapon style. i had the steelbook case edition with the emulated mortal kombat 3 that came with it. what the fuck was *i* thinking. also Kid Thunder (the original feature) is none other than professional twin Scenebuild! go hit him up at @Delgo_Buchanan and tell him he's cool and good

a lot of these commentaries are going to be very tiny and non-sequeter, mainly because i totally forgot how i made them! that's what two years away from your album will do to you. i do remember what went into this one, though. the basic gist was that i went outside and got some wind samples, and then after some workshopping, some Choppd N' Screwd Third Blind Eye, and some very heavily reverbed piano, they became this bad boy!!! i think the title is from an old Source Engine console command or something. it does not matter.

HARIBO HAVOC 02:22
i was listening to a lot of Radiohead while walking home from school (as 11-graders do) and Reckoner was played at least 3 times every day. i always thought the intro drums were so cool. like all the cymbals were in one ear, and the drum bit was in the other. "whoa," i said. "i already forgot tonight's homework," i said. i had the name Haribo Havoc as the in-my-head album title for the literal longest time. i ended up going up with jawbreakers as the title ("they're bad for you hehe") but i still wanted to use it for something, and here we are! also this is the first instance of terrible clicking in the album, a side-effect of throwing every single Virtual-DJ effect onto a sample and not listening to the finished product. sorry!

i remember showing my dad this track for the first time and him being completely blown away that his kid made it. his texted his thoughts to me while at work the next day: "[the song] was very cool.... very strong movie sound Track vibes. I got the vision of a detective wandering through a club looking for a lady... and this was the song that was playing in the background. like a Nicolas Winding Reef [sic] movie. thanks for showing !" no prob, dad.

don't have toooooooo much to say about this track! i remember showing declan it for the first time and when the song brakes at :56 he gave me a look like he shit himself. this moment would be my muse in the years to come.
7.
this is nothing against Past Boocanan but there are a lot of tracks that are on here for the sake of being on here, which is not something i usually have a problem with! i could have done a lot more with this sample. but the name is dope as hell, imo. shoutout to dante.

the next to tracks aren't really all that special (a numbers station that plays this one Homer Simpson quote, and some Silent Hill 2 song) but the story surrounding it certainly is! like two weeks after jawbreakers was put up on DMT Tapes FL, there was a big dispute about Vito (the man running the label) not paying his artists or something. it wasn't a big deal to me, amateur musician that i was, but it sparked an incredible dialogue about whether or not vaporwave should exist for profit! [CONT. NEXT TRACK]

people on started making their own bandcamp pages with their DMT TAPES albums on them, and i decided to follow suit, half because other people were doing it, and half because i thought it'd be cool to design my own bandcamp page. time changes all things, and the vito situation has calmed down, and there's no ill will between any parties. i think these two tracks cementing that mobilization to self-releases across the genre was pretty cool, so up they stay!
10.
aaaaaaaand scene!!! thank you so much for redownloading, or if this is your first time listening, congrats! i still remember sending in the finished zip over to the label, i didn't sleep a wink that night. in my mind it was the greatest risk i had ever taken, to bring out every musical idea next up, a full rework of forgotten two-parter THE GREED OF THE MANY // THE LOVE OF THE FEW. see you then! ~boocanan

"Jawbreakers worships cold, metallic surfaces without ever succumbing to Glitch territories. In fact, these steely parts become gaseous and aeriform more often than not, even the attached Hip-Hop markers are liquedous enough to float within the magnanimous fluidity." ~Ambient Exotica
